office workstation starter and extension module planning

Office Workstation Starter, Extension Module and Future Expansion Guide

Prepare workstation starter and extension-module scope, shared-component ownership, end conditions and future expansion inputs before asking a China office furniture manufacturer to quote.

Answer first: do not treat every workstation position as one identical standalone desk

A workstation run may use complete standalone modules, starter units, extension units or shared screens, frames, legs and cable parts. Those terms are not interchangeable across every model family. Before asking BG Office Furniture to quote a 2-person, 4-person or larger open-office layout, identify the exact BG model, the number of complete runs and the intended user positions on each run.

Keep any starter-versus-extension assumption marked for written confirmation until the selected model's component structure is verified. A product image can show the design direction, but it does not prove that an intermediate position, shared leg, end panel, screen bracket or cable part can be ordered or installed independently.

  • Exact BG model or shortlisted workstation family
  • Complete run count and total user positions shown separately
  • Standalone, starter or extension assumption clearly labeled
  • Shared frame, leg, screen, storage and cable parts left for model-level confirmation
  • Unknown engineering details kept open instead of inferred from a photograph

Map the first run, intermediate positions and end conditions on one seat plan

The same total seat count can create different component needs depending on how seats are grouped. Eight users arranged as two 4-person clusters may not use the same end conditions, shared components or aisle layout as four 2-person modules. Show each run on the current floor plan and label its start, intermediate positions, exposed ends, screen direction and access side.

Columns, doors, circulation routes, floor boxes and department boundaries can stop a run from extending even when the headcount grows. Keep those constraints on the same dated seat plan so the quotation does not assume that a visually continuous bench can pass through a fixed site obstruction.

  • Run ID, department, room or floor reference
  • Seats per run and number of complete runs
  • Exposed end positions and required end treatment
  • Screen direction, storage side and cable-access side
  • Columns, doors, aisles, floor boxes and other expansion limits

Separate shared components from user-by-user accessories before price comparison

A useful workstation comparison shows which parts belong to the complete run and which parts belong to one user position. Screens, support frames, beams, legs, cable trays, desktop access parts and shared storage may serve more than one position, while pedestals or personal storage may be counted per user. If suppliers price these scopes differently, a simple per-seat comparison can hide missing components.

Ask each quotation to list the complete module basis, shared-component basis and user accessory basis. Final dimensions, included parts, packing, MOQ, price and installation method remain subject to BG's written quotation and approved model documentation.

  • Complete module or run components listed together
  • Shared screens, frames, legs and cable parts identified where applicable
  • Per-user pedestal or personal-storage scope separated
  • Optional and included accessories shown on different lines
  • Price, MOQ, packing and installation responsibility left for written confirmation

Plan future expansion as a controlled second release, not an assumed add-on

A buyer may want to open one department now and add seats later. Record the first-release runs, reserve positions and later expansion zone separately. Keep the original model, visible finish basis, screen direction, shared-component notes and floor constraints in the handover file so a later replenishment request can be checked against what was actually approved and delivered.

Do not promise that a later extension will connect directly to the first installation. Model availability, finish continuity, component compatibility, site changes and access conditions still need review at the time of the repeat order. A controlled expansion file gives dealers and project buyers a usable starting point without turning future supply into an unsupported guarantee.

  • Launch-now runs, reserve positions and later expansion zones separated
  • Approved model, finish basis and component schedule retained
  • Expansion-side access and end condition recorded after installation
  • Later quantity and receiving route treated as a new confirmed release
  • Compatibility, availability, lead time and commercial terms reconfirmed in writing

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a workstation starter unit and an extension unit?

A starter unit normally establishes a complete run, while an extension may share selected structural or screen components with that run. The exact definition and compatible parts must be confirmed for the selected BG model; do not infer them from a generic product image.

Should workstation buyers compare only the price per seat?

No. Compare the complete run, shared components and per-user accessories as separate scopes so screens, frames, legs, cable parts or storage are not omitted from a simple per-seat figure.

Can a 4-person workstation always be extended into a larger bench later?

Not automatically. Model structure, exposed end conditions, shared parts, finish continuity, site constraints and current availability all need written confirmation before a later extension is quoted or installed.

What should a buyer send for a future workstation expansion review?

Send the original model and approved component schedule, current floor plan, installed run photographs, exposed expansion side, required new seats, finish basis, destination and target release timing.
